We by no means new to the world of social media influencers and bloggers and it has been something that has been really interesting to watch over the years. There’s been a big shift since the fight to be in someones Top 8 on MySpace, and the world of social media platforms is bigger than ever; we wanted to write about that in more detail, so here is our look at the growth of social media influencers…
Although there are still many people that blog just for fun, there is no denying that becoming a social media influencer has become big business. The last year has encouraged the growth of the online economy even more. With people stuck at home, there would have been a decline in people seeing adverts on the side of buses and billboards on the side of the road and as such, companies had to find new ways to get their products into the view line of their potential customers – up-steps social media influencers. With so many people using the internet now, considering child safety and making sure they’re aware of how to approach any influencers safely is a must!

For many of us, checking our social media platforms is as normal as making a cup of tea or switching on the TV to see the news. It’s become such a big part of our lives and it feels natural to do that. So with so many people scrolling Facebook and viewing Instagram Reels, it made sense that brands would jump on this and try to get a piece of the pie.
The Growth of Social Media
The thing with social media is that it is ever-changing, especially as social media platforms adapt to keep up with customer demand. TikTok is a platform that has grown massively over the last 12 months; which has encouraged Instagram to introduce Reels – and give them greater strength in their algorithms to encourage vloggers to get on board with making them. That’s the thing with creating content for online consumption – it is about more than just putting together a piece that you like and putting it out there. You need to know how to optimise the content to make sure it is seen – social media is all about engagement these days. Joining in with trends is important because this gets your content seen by more people – hence encouraging more engagement. You can also repost popular contents using Instagram photo and video downloader apps (in an authentic way) to drive user engagement.
The Positives of Social Media
Even though lots of content is tailored and perfected, one of the nicest things that the growth of social media influencers has encouraged is the chance for those that would not usually be seen, to be seen. The likes of plus size hip-hop dancer Amanda LaCount; she possibly wouldn’t have been seen by mainstream media and she doesn’t fit the norm of being “beautiful”, but she has a massive social media following and this has helped to thrust her into the limelight. Plus-size bloggers, black content creators, people with disabilities – they’re all getting a chance to shine thanks to social media and it is something that is so wonderful to see. We live in a really wonderful and varied world, so audiences getting to see a range of body types, skin colours and abilities is a great way of encouraging that the media we consume matches our real lives too.
