Choosing How to Decorate Your Home Extension

Whether you have added a downstairs bathroom to your home, extended to create a larger kitchen or added an extra room to your home for another reason you’ll be glad to know that there are décor options to suit everyone – let’s look at how to decorate your home extension.

Arranging Your Home Extension

Before you commit to a home extension it is wise to speak to the company in advance about what you need and what they can do for you. Ideally you want to speak to a company that offers bespoke designs and planning; so that when it comes to decorating you know that everything is already taken care of and you don’t have to give much thought to things like lighting etc. as this has already been sorted within the home extension design.

Choosing Colours

When deciding the main colour scheme for your home extension one of the first things to consider is what the main purpose of the room is going to be. Of course, the great thing about home extensions is that they can be multipurpose, but you likely have an idea of the main use of the room so start from there. For example, decorating a room for a child’s playroom is going to be different to the colour you would choose for a kitchen that has been extended.

Choosing your flooring pattern and type is also a crucial decision when redesigning your home, as it can really set the tone for a space and help to give it the perfect finish. For example, grey wood floors can help to lighten the whole feel of a room whereas a darker wood can add a sense of sophistication, the choice is yours.

The herringbone seen below, for example, can be achieved with a variety of different flooring styles, not just hardwood flooring. Online retailers such as Carpet Warehouse offering herringbone patterns in vinyl, laminate, and rigid core SPC tiles, depending on the budget you have available for your home renovation.

Choosing Furniture

Furniture works in the same way as the rest of the house too – what is the room going to be used for and what do you need? You have probably created a home extension in order to have more space in the house so looking at sensible storage solutions is a sensible idea – for example, do you want a sofa bed or a bed with storage underneath if the room you have created is to be used for a bedroom? There’s lots of really creative kitchen storage out there these days and options like this give you the best possible chance of making the most efficient use of the extra space you have created.

Think Lighting

Without a doubt, you’re going to want to ensure you have some decent lighting in the part of your home. Once again, this is going to be affected by how much natural lighting the room already has. Lamps work well because they allow you to add light to a small space without being too overwhelming.

Consider the size of the new room you have created, how much light it will get throughout the day and what you are going to use the room for and this should give you a firm idea of what choices to make when choosing décor.
