As this weekend will be busy with firework displays and all the fun of bonfire night, keeping our furry friends happy over the weekend can be tough. Here are a few pointers to keep a dog happy during the festivities.
Take an early walk
With the evenings already drawn in, taking an early walk can help settle your furry friend for the day. Choose a location where you can let dogs exercise as much as possible. Be sure to take a drink and the other necessary items for your dog with you on your walk. It may be cold, even frosty, so a puppy coat is a great way to keep your dog warm and can be taken off easily when your dog has warmed up.

Take a Look at a Local Market
Google is great at finding local open-air markets, these are generally dog friendly and offer a busy atmosphere during the day. Giving the pooch as much to think about during the day will help in tiring them out so they sleep through any late-night bangs or flashes.
Prepare for the Evenings
However tired or relaxed you can get your pet there’s a chance he or she won’t take well to the fireworks, so some distraction techniques may help. Having background music where the dog is spending its evening may help reduce the alarm from firework noise outside your home. Keeping treats on hand is always going to help calm the dog. Keep windows and curtains closed. If all else fails, snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket for you and your well loved pet may be a privilege you consider, after all it’s only one weekend.
Whatever you and your pooch decide to do this weekend, be safe and take into account the needs of your dog.
