Although we’re most definitely not vegan in our house, we do have a lot of meat-free meals and use meat alternatives. We’re a fussy household and often non-meat alternatives are just what proves popular at the time. However, until this week we hadn’t tried vegan cheese – but it went down a hit! Here’s a quick vegan cheese review:
Violife kindly sent us some of their vegan cheese selection to try and the first thing we noticed was just how much variety there was to choose from. We remember vegan cheese from back in the day as being some half-hearted attempt at providing an alternative to dairy cheese that would look unappetising and be pretty expensive. Violife has clearly turned this around and we this selection of flavours and types to choose from, there is likely to be something for everyone.

Using Vegan Cheese Day to Day
Although we’re not vegans we wanted to try out the cheese as we would day to day, so that we can get a real feel for what it is like. We got to work looking up some vegan recipes and as you might imagine there was quite a selection to choose from. One thing that has to be said about eating meat-free and avoiding dairy is that over recent years there certainly have been plenty more options on the market – it must be great for those that want to try new foods but don’t want to consume animal products.
We’re big fans of burgers in our house – you know those ones you make at home and fill with all manner of fillings until you can’t pick them up in your hands. We thought we would try some of the smoked cheese slices on a burger; as this is how we would usually use cheese. Admittedly, you can tell the difference between this cheese and ‘normal’ cheese but not in a way that makes it at all unpleasant in fact, everyone in the house was a fan of the smoked flavour and the texture of the cheese; so you could say it was a hit!

We have plans for the Le Rond Camembert flavour vegan cheese this weekend. We’re going to have a melty cheese and bread kind of night and this will feature; we’re all excited to see what it’s like and how it fares amongst the other cheese that we’ll have out. It looks like this, so we have high hopes!

Have you tried Vegan cheese before? We’d love to know your recommendations if you have, we’re definitely open to trying more!
