Cracks and leaks come into many homes due to a number of reasons, but it’s important that you know what to do if they appear in your home. Cracks and leaks appear when there is damage or some form of exposed area like a faulty window or loose doors. Here are some top tips for protecting your home against cracks & leaks.
Check roof tiles
Roofs are a common culprit for cracks and leaks especially when they become damaged or loose and fall off. Make sure you check the top of your house often, especially just before the rainier seasons set in and during winter. These can be easily replaced by yourself, or you can consult an expert on how best to tackle the damage.

Assess the foundations
Foundations in any building, from commercial building foundations to your own home, can be the culprit when it comes to raising mould and damp. Tied together and you may well see cracks in your walls. Keep foundations at a decent level of moisture, but not too high. Similarly, in the hotter months you’ll find that your foundations may look really dry. Keep your lawn regularly watered to ensure the area surrounding your foundations doesn’t shrink.
Check your windows and doors
Windows and doors are covered by a sealant surrounding them. Over time these can get damaged or wear away, so it’s a good idea to keep on top of any changes to them. Windows that don’t shut entirely, or doors that have small exposed areas bring in more cold weather and any rain that comes along with it. These again can cause cracks to form around your windows and doors, so keep a close eye on the sealants.
In the event of any cracks and leaks appearing you can use plaster or Polyfilla to fill in the cracks. Leaks rely on you fixing the issue from the source and applying weather-resistant sealants where required.
