Are You a DIY’er?

I always love the idea of DIY but have to be honest and say that I do often opt for the easy choice! That doesn’t always mean hiring someone to do the job, my boyfriend is pretty good with a power drill so I tend to get him to do the jobs around the house that need doing – hanging a mirror in the hallway was his latest task. With the Hire Station recently looking at which cities are most likely to be filled with DIY goers, I thought I would share with you some DIY tips!

Preparation is Key

Whatever DIY project you’re planning, preparation is key to making sure the job goes smoothly. If you’re not sure where to start with this then looking at YouTube tutorials can help as the preparation you need to do does vary depending on the project. For example, if you’re painting a wall then cleaning the room and laying down sheets to protect the floor is a great place to start. You might want to consider how you’re going to reach all of the areas you want to paint too – do you need something safe to stand on or a set of step-ladders?

Make Sure You Have The Right Tools

The right tools are definitely key to helping things go as they should. Make sure you have all of these to hand before you get started – the last thing you want to do is get halfway through your project and then have to down tools to find what you want. There isn’t always an easy place to stop and you might end up delaying your project unnecessarily.  Look for a homeware store; as they’re likely to have everything you need!

Close Down For the Day

When you finish for the day make sure you close down for the day as best you can. Wrapping paintbrushes in clingfilm helps to make sure they’re ready to go as soon as you are the next day.

Hire a Professional

Of course, if you can’t do a project yourself then hiring someone that knows what they’re doing can help!  Although everywhere has tradespeople to hire, big cities tend to have plenty of choice – for example, The Hire Station research shows that Birmingham has 4491 registered tradespeople – meaning whatever job you need help with there will be plenty of people to help!
