Whether you want to create more space in your home and are considering a basement conversion, or you already have one and want to make the most of it there is no denying that a basement is a great addition to a home that needs a little more space. When we think of basements we tend to consider dark rooms located under the house, probably a little damp and not somewhere we would want to spend a heap of time.
However, that is not the case at all and actually over recent years basement conversions have come on leaps and bounds; think of them more along the lines of loft conversions just under the home rather than in the roof. Here are some ways to make the most of your basement conversion.
Make Use of The Darkness
Although there are plenty of ways to brighten up a basement room, if you have a hobby that benefits from darkness then the basement can be the perfect place to make this happen. Photography for example, where you need a dark room to develop photos can work out wonderfully in a basement conversion that has been put together and designed correctly. Cinema rooms are also a popular addition to basements – they give somewhere out of the way that you can watch films in a nice dark room without having to worry too much about noise.
Create Something Spectacular
If you have this space then creating something unusual and spectacular so really fun too – perhaps you want your own swimming pool or some hot tubs to create your own private spa. These might not be additions you see in most homes, but that is largely down to space. If you have a basement conversion then creating one of these is much easier to make a reality so definitely something to consider.
Think Practical
Of course, if you just want a room in the house to create some extra space then this is perfectly possible in the basement too – There is nothing to say that a perfect living room or bedroom can’t be created here. Often you’ll miss out on natural light but there are plenty of LED and other lighting options available now that it doesn’t need to be an issue.
