Let’s be honest, there are probably a million and one things to think about when starting out as a freelancer; however beyond the actual opening of your business and you know, selling products, there are some things you should consider. We’ve put together a list of just a few of them – hope it helps!
Starting Out As a Freelancer: Your Work Space
With many freelancers starting their working life from home it is important to give thought to your working environment and what you need to make it comfortable. Not only that but you may want to give thought to where you are going to store any stock or things like confidential paperwork. There are lots of options for desks and storage to use at home so finding something that suits doesn’t need to be too much hassle, you just need to consider it beforehand and get yourself sorted.

Starting Out As a Freelancer: What Do You Need To Get Started?
Starting your own business, whether freelance or not is going to be a massive learning curve so don’t expect to be able to do everything at once. That said, it is definitely worth thinking about what you might need to get started and what you can do now – for example, setting up social media platforms is free and helps you to start promoting your business straight away. It might seem like a small step, but anything like this is something that is ticked off of the list.
Starting Out As a Freelancer: How Can You Protect Yourself
Although there are lots of benefits to working for yourself, you do lose things such as paid holidays and sick pay. This is definitely something you should take into consideration when wondering whether you should go freelancer or not. One thing you should do is make sure you are as protected as possible. As part of your life insurance package, or indeed as a policy on its own you should look into income protection insurance. This helps to cover some of your costs if you have to take time off of work sick through illness or injury. Different policies have their own terms but many payout as much as 70% of your salary and if you’re off work without pay that type of support would be priceless. Life insurance can be tricky if you’re plus size or have any sort of disability but stick with it, because there will be a policy out there to suit you.
