Helping Your Child Become More Environmentally Conscious

Helping Your Child Become More Environmentally Conscious – To explore being friendlier towards the environment, we recommend giving your child the chance to understand how they can contribute towards helping the planet. There are a lot of different things your child could try out to help them understand how they can do their part for the world, a lot of which can be done at home. Here are some top tips we recommend from Habs Boys School for being more environmentally conscious for your child.

Helping Your Child Become More Environmentally Conscious

More Environmentally Conscious – Pack your child’s lunches together

Work on making your child’s lunches every day with them involved, even the ones you pack away in their lunch bag for school. They’re becoming more conscious of how much plastic may end up in their lunches, so you can now change their lunch to have more fruits and veggie snacks or remove the plastic wrap from their sandwich.

You could also opt to use beeswax wrapping, something that lasts for multiple uses, around their sandwiches. Your child gets to experience these little changes and implement them for themselves.

More Environmentally Conscious – Walk to school

If it’s doable of course you can always walk to school together, or opt to catch a bus or train instead. Using public transport or just taking the car out of the equation will help your child reduce their carbon footprint and you both get to improve on your physical fitness as well.

As you walk or venture to school you can talk about the benefits of walking to school and how it will help your child learn more about how they can contribute towards the environment. Another option is of course getting a bike for your child to cycle to school if they live close by. You could even look at whether your work offers a cycle scheme to get hold of a bike in an affordable way.

More Environmentally Conscious – Show your child what’s happening to the planet

It can be a sad sight to share with your child but it’s also poignant and important for them to learn about from an early age. If they’re aware, then it’s time to show them what they’ll see on the news on a regular basis, what will come up as an important issue throughout their life and how they can do their part.

There are a lot of reading books catered to children that are focused on the matter as well, which are a good starting point when showing your child about the problems happening in the environment.

More Environmentally Conscious – Give them eco-friendly tasks at home

From recycling rubbish in the correct bins to picking up plastic waste from the ground when out and about, they all make a little difference. Making eco-conscious decisions at home will help your child replicate them when they’re outside of the home and much older as well, which goes a long way towards helping our planet.

If you have any tips on being more environmentally conscious as a family we’d love to hear them.
