The standard American diet is extremely high in processed foods and beverages, leading to inflammation and even ultimately to arthritis. Such inflammation is a big problem because it can eat away at the cartilage in the joints so that bone rubs against bone. Not only does this cause pain and discomfort but it even leads to further inflammation. This same standard American diet is also responsible for weight gain and obesity and, of course, extra strain on those same joints while a sedentary lifestyle with little or no exercise just compounds both arthritis and obesity. When I turned 40, I didn’t even know that peri menopause was a thing! I knew that menopause would happen ‘sometime near 50’ and that because I was a bit older when I had my children, I’d probably feel menopausal about the same time as my daughter was experiencing puberty. I joked about it! My mother had a surgical menopause at 40 due to a hysterectomy so I didn’t even have her experience to learn from.
